Ekillis M. "Skip" Chandler, Jr.
Aug. 7, 1942 - Aug. 5, 2003
Ekillis died after a long battle with cancer. He attended the U.S. Air Force Academy and completed his bachelor degree at Memphis State University. He received a Masters Degree from Texas A&M University and also attended Georgia Tech. Skip worked in sales for various computer and telecommunications firms in Kansas City since moving there in 1974. He changed careers in 1988 when he purchased Security Safe and Alarm and became a small business owner. He is survived by his son, Sgt. Jack S. Chandler of Ft. Drum, NY; daughter, Leah J. Chandler, Kansas City, MO; grandson Branson M. Chandler; father and stepmother E.M. and Marian Chandler; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Cathy Chandler, Lytle, Texas.

Killed May 2, 1969 in Vietnam
Fletcher was an Army Sgt. (E5) with the 25th Infantry Division.
He was born on Mar 26, 1944. His tour of duty began on Oct 13, 1968. On May 2, 1969, at the age of 25, Fletcher perished in the service of our country in South Vietnam, Binh Duong. His body was recovered. He was single and he was a Presbyterian. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), and Purple Heart.
You can find him honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 26W, Row 97.
Fletcher would laugh at the line above about his having been a Presbyterian,
and say something like he was probably more Sioux. He was a personal Kerouac,
Dylan, Motherwell, Yeats, or Howlin' Wolf for everyone who knew him.
For the angry and heartpure college children of a changing Alabama culture
he was a rangy back-alley high priest in tweed and jeans,
with fine blonde hair and bright blue eyes. His will always be the clearest voice
we hear. He wove his great stories with long patrician hands but walked like James Dean
and told the blues like Dave Van Ronk. He loved dogs and hated injustice and stupidity.
He was an artist, storyteller, philosopher, poet, musician, and then a graduate student in French whose hours at Mississippi State were not enough to give him a draft deferment.
He taught me to love Hans Hofmann, Coltrane, and life.
His incisive humor was matched by his kindness, wisdom, and intelligence--
the deepest I've ever known. It was because of respect for his military father
that he chose not to evade the call to serve in a war he opposed,
and he served as a noncombatant. He is buried in Arlington.

there in 1962. He passed away last year in February. I would like to find out more about

Sam Andrew Plemmons, Jr.
Sam was born in January 24,1943. He died March 26,1992 in San Antonio, Tx. He graduated in the HHS class of 1962. He attended the University of Maryland and eventually earned a masters degree in Library Science. He served in the Army in Vietnam. He loved Heidlelberg and his years there.
Sam is buried at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in Section 20, Site 906.

He attended University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1967. He went into Army aviation and was at Fort Rucker, Alabama, for training to pilot the Chinook helicopter. Crashed in a T-41 during nighttime storms over the Ozarks in Missouri.

Sandro was a long distance runner on the track team at HAHS.
Sandro was born on October 25, 1947 and joined the Armed Forces while in Falls Church, VA. He served as a 1542 in the Army. In 1 year of service, he attained the rank of 1LT/O2. He began a tour of duty on March 12, 1970.
On April 15, 1970, at the age of 22, Sandro perished in the service of our country in South Vietnam, Quang Ngai. You can find SANDRO NICHOLAS BARONE honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 11W, Row 5.

"There was a student whom I was friendly with, Kathy Kallyias, who also was there just for senior year. Her dad was no longer in the military and the family stayed in Europe, living in Greece, I believe, and in Germany "on the economy." She was completely fluent in both Greek and German. She went on to college at the University of Maryland in Munich. I remember hearing a few years later that she was killed in an automobile accident from my parents who remained in Heidelberg for two more years." - Suzanne O'Keefe

Stephen was born on March 9, 1947 and joined the Armed Forces while in Shreveport, LA.
He served as a handler of a Scout Dog in the Marine Corps. In 4 years of service, he attained the rank of 1LT/O2.

Charles "Chuck" McCarty
Chuck McCarty passed away in October (2004) from a tear in his aorta. The Dr.'s tried to do everything they could (Chuck was a Dr. you know), but he developed an infection and it was too late. He was only 58 years old. Class of 1964 Heidelberg. Handsome young man.
According to his Aunt, he had become quite an accomplished water colorist.

Robert was born on December 14, 1946 and joined the Armed Forces while in Rome, NY.
He served as a cook in the Marine Corps. His unit was the 3RD CA GRP, Combined Action Program, 3RD MAF. In 2 years of service, he attained the rank of CPL/E4.
On January 7, 1968, at the age of 21, he perished in the service of our country in South Vietnam, Thua Thien. You can find Robert honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 33E, Row 73.
"Jim Weeks, 2nd Lieutenant, Regular US Army (Infantry, Airborne Ranger), was
killed in action on July 20, 1968. Jim was on a patrol on the DMZ
between North Korea and South Korea. Jim attended the University of Arizona for four years, where he was a leader in the student government and Residence Hall Association. He graduated in 1968 with an ROTC commission. He was killed at the age of 22, only nine days after he arrived in Korea. We still love and miss him." - Louise Weeks Thorndike, Class of '66

Cliff died on Veteran's Day, Nov 11, 1985, in an automobile accident. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Marines and was in Vietnam from 1967-1968.

"Bob attended Hberg HS 1961-64, but graduated from Blackford High School in Calif. (left summer of 64 before his Senior year).
He was killed April 1985, as the pilot in a helicopter accident off the

Many of you have known for some time that there have been several things in life that meant a lot to Candice: her husband, Bill Russell, her two sons, Blake and Blair, her Greyhounds, her sister, Nancy and family, her participation in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, her love for her friends from Heidelberg High School.
One of Candice's great love, was Heidelberg High School and the reunions that have been held over the years...Candice was able to attend the last reunion in Heidelberg last July and shared so much with members of the class (Sharon Arnold, Marti Bravo, Don Carbine, Chuck Camblor, Robin

Johnny Charles "Chuck" Camblor 60 years of age, passed away in Indianapolis surrounded by his loving family and friends. Chuck spent much his life in Germany, where he attended Heidelberg High School and graduated from Cheyney State College, Pennsylvania. He was born in Wanze, Belgium to William E. and Mariette Lempereur Camblor. He spent his career working in International Banking, American Express ; Pacific Bank and Morgan Chase, Indianapolis. He and his wife worked to reopen the synagogue of Bamberg, Germany with the reopening the Jewish community is being revitalized. He is survived by his beloved wife, Martine; his brother, William J. Camblor and nephews, Victor, Billy and Steve Camblor, a half sister of Heidelberg, Germany. He will also be deeply missed by his family in France: sister-in-law, Jacqueline and brothers-in-law, Freddy, Georges, Gerald and Patrick and their families. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 31, 2008.
Chuck was always full of life, attended all of the Heidelberg Reunions (stateside as well as Germany) since 2001, and was truly one of the best friends a person could ever have. . .

Missing Him Daily. . .
Once again I have the grim task of telling you all about the passing of Chuck Camblor ('66), after battling cancer for the past eight years. He passed away yesterday morning, Mar 29, 2008. Chuck was able to attend the 2001 HB reunion and as you can tell from the photo (click on his name above) he had a wonderful time with many of his old friends from Heidelberg High. The look on his face is priceless as he had not really been in touch with any classmates for many years prior. I made contact with Chuck about thirteen years ago and we had been in constant contact. I will always remember his VW Beatle that he drove around HB. I told Rick Gibson ('66) this morning about Chuck's passing and later he sent me the following e-mail and I wanted to share it in my e-mail.

Here is something funny for the memories of Chuck..... One time during a football game Coach Korth, pulled Chuck out of the game for un sportsman like conduct, and told him that if he hit the offensive lineman again after the play was over, he would be pulled out of the game and benched. Chuck went back in and on the next play, he stood in front of the player he had been attacking after the play and took off his helmet and lifted the other players helmet and kissed him... the other player got mad and hit Chuck and was tossed out of the game........... now that was the Chuck I remember........

I just got off the phone with Terry and Rick passed away yesterday (12/9) about 3pm after his battle with cancer and post surgery complications. Rick and I have been friends ever since High School and I will miss him dearly. He was a good friend and loving husband to Terry. No more suffering for you my friend...rest in peace! Watch over us all from that Castle in the Sky!

It is with a very saddened heart that I must pass the following information on to you. Doug McFaul '66 passed away last Thursday (14 July 2005). Apparently he took his own life. I have no idea what may have caused this but I do know Doug had been separated from his Wife and the divorce was finalized on Wednesday the day before he took his life. I'm in shock. I had received an e-mail from Doug telling how much he was looking forward to attending the Estes Park Reunion starting the 21st.
As you know, I am a strong believer in our Heidelberg reunions and get togetherness and this event just solidifies my thoughts. It's very important for us to be together and relive our time together in Heidelberg. The Estes Park reunion will go on as scheduled and will be dedicated to Doug's memory because I know he wanted to be there! We will drink a Bier to his memory.....May you rest in Peace my Friend and you are in a better place now!

just got off the phone with Doug McFaul's daughter, Jennifer. Doug took
his own life this past Thursday. He was here in Atlanta just two months
ago, and we had a great time together talking, reminiscing, and hoisting
a few. He and I had been friends since the third grade at H-berg
Elementary, and I will greatly miss his wit, humor, sometimes deep
(sometimes wacky) thoughts and insights, and overall good nature. Most
of all, I will miss the enduring friendship we shared though the years,
even when we hadn't seen each other for long periods of time.

Longtime Video and News Film Editor
David Ranier Them, a notable film and video editor who had worked at WPVI-TV 6 for more than thirty years passed away suddenly on February 19, 2005. His life had been dedicated to broadcast journalism, a career for which he had trained at Temple University's School of Communications and Theater.
Them, as he was affectionately called by those who knew him, had been born in Tacoma, Washington in the shadow of Mount Ranier, the highest peak in the continental United States. He often remarked on the irony of his namesake in light of his very short (3 feet 10 inch) stature. As an army officer’s son, he lived in many settings throughout the United States and Europe during his school years and benefited from opportunities to learn from others in overseas settings. He graduated from Heidelberg High School in Germany and then spent a few years moving through Europe and the United States with a camera and a small portable typewriter.
Them settled in Philadelphia where he completed his schooling at Temple University's Radio Television Film Department. He worked as a sound engineer for a feature film producer before joining WPVI and remained a fixture in its newsroom for three decades. He brought his knowledge of television news video editing to students at Temple where he served as a guest lecturer for classes on Film and Video Editing.
His remains will be interned with those of his mother and father, Col. Eugene F. Them and Audrey Williams Them, in Arlington National Cemetery. He is survived by his sister Debra Gene Them Henwood of Norcross, Georgia, his brother-in-law William Henwood, nephew Daniel Rainier Henwood, niece Kimberly Gene Henwood, and by longtime friends and Southampton, PA housemates Frank Heying and Carol Coren, and their children Lena Maria Heying Vargas, Teresa de J. Heying Savel and David Daniel Heying.
Though small in stature, Them was big in spirit and a tremendously witty raconteur. His family asks that contributions in his memory be made to cancer research and cancer treatment programs or to charities of their choice.

John died suddenly of complications from lung cancer.
John J. Gannon (58) of Seminole passed away Friday September 12, 2008. Born in Germany, John came here in 2003 from Daytona Beach. He was a nurse manager at Bayfront Medical Center. During the Vietnam War, he was a helicopter pilot in the Army, and was a lifelong world traveler. John will be remembered for his positive reflections on life from its humorous side. Survivors include his beloved wife June; loving sisters Pat Gansen, Michaelann Gannon and Joanne Barker. He was predeceased by his son Joe Gannon.
A memorial service will be 11AM Tuesday in the Sheen Conference Center at Bayfront Medical Center.
Donations in John’s memory would be appreciated to the American Lung Association of FL, Climb Tampa/Gannon’s Gang.

Bob died of a heart attack on November 11, 2002
"It took us all by surprise, and we continue to struggle with the shock and our grief.
Rob & Dave Boyd and Chuck Wood came to Colorado for the memorial service on Monday, 11/18. I had never met Dave, but he was a tremendous source of support for me and our entire family. Chuck continues to be a surrogate brother to me and allowed me to lean on him even though he was grieving as well. I am so grateful Bob sustained his close relationships with Rob and Chuck, they feel like family to me.
Bob suffered from diabetes and died from a sudden heart attack related to his diabetic condition. He and his wife, Maureen, were home on Veterans' Day, 11/11, and he was watching the morning news on TV. Maureen came up from the basement to find Bob in the midst of a heart attack and called 911. Even though she attempted CPR, he never responded. As you may know, Bob leaves behind a wonderful son, William, who is only 14 and a freshman in high school.
I appreciate knowing you had the opportunity to see Bob this summer and remember him from high school. I am also thankful you and others have taken the time and energy to reunite those of us who attended Heidelberg High School.

Lesley Watson Seligman, 58, of Cantonment died May 31, 2007.
Lesley was a stained glass artisan whose main body of work can be viewed at the Normandy Chapel, Fort Riley, KS, memorializing the 1st (Big Red One) Infantry Division.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold, COL, USA (RET); her daughter, Lara Russo (Chris) and three granddaughters (Sarah, Mia, and Anna) of Hillsborough, NJ; and son, Terrence, of Drexel Hill, PA.
The family thanks Covenant Hospice of West Florida for their unstinting care and support.

"I need to belatedly report the death of Thomas Franklin Clise III (HAHS '70), Cadet Sergeant, Virginia Military Institute, Class of 1974. Tom, a gallant gentleman and soldier, was stricken with sarcoma our second Class year. He had his leg amputated and returned to duty at VMI. VMI is not now, and was even less so then, handicapped accessible in the slightest. He died in the fall of 1973 despite the best efforts of the Army Hospital. Tom was loved and respected by his classmates and fellow cadets. He is now remembered in our flowing cups until we meet again." - Stuart Ashton '70

WATSON Joseph Carl , born Jan. 2, 1952, in Buffalo, NY, died of heart failure due to a diabetic coma on Sat, May 6, 2006. He joins his beloved mother Eloise, father Henry, and niece Carrie in Heaven. He leaves behind a sister Barbara, and two brothers Michael and Henry, their wives, Maureen and Susan, a niece, Laura of New York City, three nephews, Kris, Patrick, and Thaddeus, two step-nephews Jason and Chad, and their wives Carrie and Susan, and step grandnephew Jacob, all of Lexington, to mourn the loss of his sweet nature and loving heart for the rest of their days. Joey never met a stranger or an enemy, always finding time to listen with sorrow or celebrate with joy. His friends numbered too many to count in Kentucky, California, Germany, and all points in between who will miss the kindness and crankiness that were unique to Joey. For the last twelve years he worked for Mark Smith, and loved him as a brother, along with many friends who called Thoroughbred's their second home. His life will be celebrated at a Wake Wed from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m., at Thoroughbred Restaurant, Leestown Road, Lexington, KY. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Joey's memory.

MARY DEAN BUCKLEY, 47, of Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of FAIR HAVEN NJ, loving wife, mother, daughter and friend, died Monday, Oct. 23, at Sentara Nursing Center, Virginia Beach, after 31 months in a coma. A native of Shrewsbury, she moved to Virginia Beach with her family in 1999. She was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, and Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club, Monmouth Beach, NJ. She was active in her church, community and her sons' school and sports activities, and was team mom. She held undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Kansas, and had been a social worker in New Jersey at the Early Intervention Program and Sunny Days before leaving to start a family.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Buckley; four sons, Edward, Thomas, Matthew, and William; her parents, Col. Gernard (U.S. Army retired) and Doris Dean of Shrewsbury; two sisters, Nancy Dean Boone of Monmouth Beach, and Martha Dean Johnson of Virginia Beach; a brother, Daniel Dean of Darnestown, Md.; eight nephews; six nieces; and many, many friends.

Bill passed away from a heart attack last year (2000). He and Rose Mulieri '71 were married in 1972 and divorced in 1975. After Germany, Bill settled in Colorado, where he remarried and had children.

Robin passed away the 22nd of April at 9PM. She was a terrific lady whom I had
17 great years with and she will be missed. The turnout at the viewing was
incredible as half the Navy showed up for support. I just received permission

OBITUARY:
Robin Lynn Munari, 51, of Mechanicsville died April 22, 2006, at Bayside Care Center in Lexington Park.
Born June 26, 1954, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Angelo G. and Joan Walker Munari.
She resided in numerous locations in the United States and Europe during her father’s career in the U.S. Army and graduated from the Munich American High School in June 1972. She received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Purdue University in 1977, followed by a post-baccalaureate certificate in information systems in 1987. She completed a master in business administration degree from Florida Institute of Technology in 1993.
She enlisted in the U.S. Navy at Naval Air Facility in Washington, D.C., in September 1989. In 1990 she was transferred to NR ASWOC 0466 in New Orleans, La. From March 1991 until November 1994 she was assigned to NR Naval Space Command 0166 in Dahlgren, Va., as a data processing analyst and technician. From December 1994 until November 1996 she was assigned to NR SPAWAR HQ 0366 as a tactical training division instructor in San Diego, Calif. From December 1996 until November 1998 she returned to NR Naval Space Command 0166 in Dahlgren as an ADP software technician. From December 1998 until September 2001 she was assigned to NR Naval Network Warfare Command Net Eng in Dahlgren as the program’s Webmaster. She continued her duty at the NR Naval Network and Space Operations Command 0266 from September 2001 until October 2005. She was selected as Program 18’s 2004 Sailor of the Year. She retired as a chief petty officer in January 2006.
She is survived by her partner, Michael Worth of Mechanicsville.
Friends will be received today, April 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown. A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Navy Brings Retirement Ceremony to Petty Officer

Chief Petty Officer Robin L. Munari retired from the Navy last weekend. And, while the retirement ceremony was staged in the long-standing Navy tradition, the location and timing were certainly not typical.
Normally, when a sailor retires, the ceremony is almost always held at his or her final duty station, after a minimum of 20 years’ service.
But, since Munari has recently undergone three surgeries and is slow recovering from the procedures, the Navy agreed to let her retire early, and her co-workers decided to come to her with the ceremony.
‘‘We got an exception in this case through the Secretary of the Navy, and through the Navy Reserves” to allow an early retirement, said Capt. Sandy L. Daniels, director of the Space and Network Warfare Program, where Munari worked. ‘‘Under the circumstances, it was the right thing to do.”
Munari’s retirement was held Saturday afternoon at the Bayside Care Center in Lexington Park, where she is convalescing from her multiple operations.
Munari joined the Naval Reserves in September 1989. She had received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Purdue University in 1977 and, in 1993, after joining the Navy, she earned her master’s degree in business administration from Florida Institute of Technology.
Munari has been an active-duty reservist for the past 16 years. During her most recent assignment the chief information systems technician has been reporting to the Navy’s Space and Network Warfare Program at Andrews Air Force Base.
Prior duty stations in her career have included four tours of duty at Dahlgren, Va., as well as assignments in San Diego, New Orleans and in Keflavik, Iceland.
Last year the 51-year-old Mechanicsville resident was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Since July 2005, Munari has had three operations, along with numerous post-operative chemotherapy treatments. Because of all these procedures, Munari is now debilitated to the point where her movements are restricted to getting around in a wheelchair, and then only with assistance.
As the retirement ceremony began, Munari entered the room in a rolling recliner chair, with the help of Chief Petty Officer Kelly Ashline, who stayed by Munari’s side for the entire program.
‘‘Chief Munari is being recognized today,” said Chief Petty Officer Louis Prestipino, the ceremony’s master of ceremonies, ‘‘for her exceptional service to the Navy. Today we are marking the end of her career, the end of her 16 years of dedicated service.”
‘‘Robin is someone who is really special,” said Rear Adm. Stephen Oswald, one of Munari’s former supervisors, during his remarks.
‘‘It’s fitting that we’re all here today for her,” he said, looking around the room filled with nearly 100 Navy officers, enlisted sailors, civilian co-workers, friends and family, ‘‘because she was always there for me when I needed her.
‘‘In the Navy,” Oswald said, ‘‘We’re always proud of our ships, and our squadrons, and our teammates. But what really matters at the end of the day is our shipmates, and Robin has always been a great shipmate.”
‘‘Robin’s tenacity, her love of the Navy and her total dedication to the service is something to be admired and imitated,” said Daniels during her remarks. ‘‘We’re here to honor her service today and show her our gratitude. I am very blessed to have had Chief Munari” among the exceptional sailors under her command.
‘‘I know for certain,” Daniels said, ‘‘her most cherished moment was becoming a chief petty officer last year,” in July, just five days after Munari had the first of her three operations. ‘‘Her leadership and her personal strength have affected us all.”
At the conclusion of her remarks, Daniels thanked Munari again for her dedicated service. Daniels ended her comments by offering Munari the traditional Navy axiom, ‘‘May you always have fair winds and following seas.”
Cmdr. James H. Rodman, commanding officer of the Naval Network Warfare Command, recalled first meeting Munari in 2001.
‘‘Without a doubt,” he said, ‘‘there is no one who has been more motivated or dedicated to their mission. It’s an honor to have served with her.
‘‘She has gone through many good times,” Rodman added, ‘‘and some hard times. But she’s always done it with her head held high.”
After completing his remarks, Rodman presented Munari with the Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal, which he pinned to her uniform.
Munari also received messages from President George W. Bush and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Terry Scott, both congratulating her on her career and offering best wishes for the future; a citation from Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.; a plaque from the Navy’s Chief Petty Officers Association; and a shadow box display containing an American flag and all Munari’s medals.
As the ceremony ended, Munari was invited to say a few words. Instead she smiled, raised her right hand and simply offered a ‘‘thumbs up” sign to everyone in the room.
Jim Rogers was killed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO while he was attending school there. He died in a glider crash sometime in the mid-70s.

Tom Hutchison, age 45, was killed in a tragic airplane accident on Sunday, May 13, 2001, near Leakey, Texas. Born on October 16, 1955, in Aberdeen, Maryland, Tom spent part of his growing-up years in Heidelberg, Germany. The family moved to San Antonio in 1972, where Tom completed his Senior year at Roosevelt High School. A high school basketball All-American and the High School 5A Most Valuable Player (MVP), Tom played for Baylor University. He graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree in economics from Baylor in 1977, and received his law degree in 1990 from St. Mary's Law School. Tom was involved in many business activities in Austin since 1979 ranging from his big and tall clothing store, Macdougal's, in the 1980s, to serving as a real estate broker. Once receiving his law degree, Tom was involved in real estate law and founded the law office of Hutchison, Ham & Mills. He was a soccer referee and served as Soccer Commissioner for Central Texas High School Referees. Tom is survived by three children: Mandy Hutchison, a senior at the United States Air Force Academy; Adam Hutchison, a freshman at Trinity University; and Tommy Hutchison, a freshman at Westlake High School. He is also survived by his father, Tom Hutchison Sr. of San Antonio; and sister, Brenda Hutchison of Austin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bet LaFevers Hutchsion. Tom was married to Dee Hutchison of Austin for 17 years and Betty Hutchison of Round Rock for four years. There will be a joint memorial service for Tom and Teresa at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, at Riverbend Church.
- "He was our All-Europe Center at 6'8" and part of the 1971-72 HHS basketball team whose only loss was in the final game of the season for the USDESEA championship against Mannheim. It was quite an upset at the time since HHS was heavily favored. It was an awesome team that started 2 juniors and a sophomore. He left HHS his senior year for Roosevelt HS in San Antonio, where he was a Blue Chip player with scholarship offers from places like SMU, Baylor and Indiana. Donald Bruce Slocombe “Don”, Age 53, Moffat, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 12th, 2009. Don completed his journey to a better life following a 12 month battle with brain cancer.
Don was born February, 27 1956, at Fort Hood, Texas to Second Lieutenant Donald Keith Slocombe and Alma Juanita “Nita” Slocombe.
Don graduated from Heidelberg American High School in Heidelberg, Germany where he lettered in Football, Wrestling and Cross Country. In his senior year he was selected as First Team All-Conference, First Team All-USDESEA (United States Dependents Schools, European Area), and First Team All-Europe, for both fullback and defensive end. Don also placed second at the All-USDESEA finals in wrestling at his weight class of 185 pounds. Don attended Henderson County Jr. College on a football scholarship.
Don worked in Austin at the Comptroller's Office for many years before operating a landscaping business in Temple, Texas.
Don was an accomplished snow skier who enjoyed skiing trips to Italy, Germany, Austria, New Mexico, and Colorado. He sincerely enjoyed the family vacations to scuba dive at Camping Pola in Costa Brava, Spain and Christmas week family ski trips to Monte Bondone, Italy, with the Heidelberg Ski Club.
Don also enjoyed fishing and hunting, riding his motorcycle and bicycle; he was an amateur photographer and was an avid collector of memorabilia.
Just before his passing he reconnected with many of his Heidelberg High School friends via the Facebook internet program. Many fond stories were related about
High School life and Heidelberg, Germany where he was known to many as the “Gentle Giant”.
Don was a loving Son, Brother & Uncle to his family and a friend to many and he will be missed.
Don is survived by his Parents - Keith and Nita, Brothers - Douglas Slocombe, his wife Catherine & David Slocombe, his wife Deborah, Step-Sister – Leana McEachern, her husband Robert, Nieces – Britney Slocombe & Eleanor Slocombe, Nephews – Derek Slocombe, Andrew Slocombe & Hunter Slocombe.

Janet (Lee) Doss, 41, Vice President at Fannie Mae, died October 10 at Sibley Hospital
after a long bout with cancer.
Mrs. Doss was born December 9, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She lived in several states,
as well as Stuttgart and Heidelberg, Germany and Rome, Italy. In 1979, she graduated
from Carlisle High School, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She was accepted at Sanford
University, California from which she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International
Relations and Economics in 1983. She received a Masters in Management Degree, with
distinguished service, from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management of
Northwestern University, Illinois, in 1990.
Mrs. Doss' career included an internship at Choice of Citibank in Baltimore, Maryland
as well as an internship and later a position as Assistant Brand Manager at Clorox, in
San Francisco, California. In 1992, she became a Brand Manager at Nestlé, USA in
San Francisco, California. In 1993, she married Curtis Doss. Upon the transfer of her
husband to London, England, she continued to market products for Nestlé, UK. In 1996,
she moved to New York, where she was employed as Vice President for Marketing at
McCann-Erikson Advertising Agency. In 2000, she relocated to the Washington, D.C.
area and was hired as Director and then Vice President of Marketing for Fannie Mae.
Mrs. Doss enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad. Her interests included
classical & jazz music and gourmet cooking. Her courage and valiant and positive
attitude served as an inspiration to many other women with cancer, as well as all who
knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Doss of Chevy Chase, Maryland; her parents,
COL William R. Lee (U.S.Army, Retired) of Burlington, Massachusetts and Jane E. Lee
of Bowie, Maryland; two brothers, William R. Lee, Jr. of Columbus, Georgia and David
E. Lee (AeYoung) of Woodstock, Maryland; Father-in-Law, Herschell Doss of Ellicott
City, Maryland; Sister-in-Law, Carole Miller (Keith) of Ellicott City, Maryland; three
nieces and one nephew and a host of friends, all of whom love and admire her.
